Painting and drawing “only” as a pastime

Painting, drawing, doodling, sketching whatever. At a young age, it is considered a pure activity, often to pass the time. Some fall into a certain mood or even meditative states. Some find peace, some distraction. Some do it to silence, some do it to certain music, some do it to relax, some do it to relieve stress. It does no harm, quite the opposite and the unconscious training of hand-eye coordination takes place along the way and is to some extent necessary to get anything at all approximately on the canvas as you want it.

What is drawing, doodling, doodling or painting for you? A pastime? Or...

At some point, it is the first time for almost everyone to leave traces on paper with a pen. In the beginning, you play and experiment with different pens on paper and cardboard. Mostly it starts with aimless scribbling.

At this point I would like to invite you to encourage or if necessary encourage and inspire you to pick up the pen again to doodle, doodle call it what you want. Move away from the keyboard or typing. The mouse out of your hand. Just you and a pen to write and draw, paint, draw lines, turn circles, hatch, fill, blot. Aimless and experience-oriented.

Aimless and experiential as one possibility and discipline of many that are possible with a drawing device. Without leitmotif of the activity towards.

Aimless - Experience-oriented vs. Goal-oriented - Result-oriented

Another step is to visually capture or model thoughts and ideas. For yourself or to be able to show them to others. In the works it is suddenly also about content. Maybe recognizability, abstraction and aesthetics. One begins to approach the matter goal-oriented and result-oriented. Has at least an ulterior motive what you want to paint content or a direct task. Whether it is a flower, an animal, text or symbol. Perhaps also a leitmotif mixes or one wants to draw under circumstances even something quite specific.

Goal-oriented and result-oriented to the thing ran is another possibility and discipline of many that one with a drawing instrument are possible. With or without leitmotif of the activity opposite.

On the one hand painting, doodling, drawing is a good way to focus or let go and on the other hand it is a metaskill. That is, a skill that can help one in very many disciplines in life. The training of the visual system can also lead to a broader perception and in turn help to acquire and learn other things. Writing things down and making sketches can help you “visualize” things more easily and quickly. The simplest sketches can clarify and simplify communication with others. You can recognize and solve problems on a sheet of paper before you tackle them in reality.

I would like to give this at this point to all those who have fun with drawings, illustrations, etc.. Have fun when you see you or create with the way:

If you make yourself aware of how your own discipline works for you and what differences make individual disciplines. You can learn a lot for yourself and your work. Without even leaving a mark on the paper. As soon as one e.g. goal-oriented and result-oriented something wants to create comes as a further factor in addition whether it concerns the own goals and results or those of others. There is even a difference if it is for someone else or for others. It is something completely different to draw something for yourself on a block than to draw something for someone else. It is a difference to draw something for yourself and to keep it for yourself or to show it to others. To get feedback – asked or unasked. It is a difference if it should, must, may, please you or others:

to please
should, must, may, can…(in the sense of aesthetics, taste, arouse emotions, move etc)

to serve
should, must, may, can… (in the sense of information, orientation, symbolization, methaphor, simplification, instruction, etc.)

A possible career as a “visual creator” in short form: Likes to draw as a child. Receives praise. Stays with it. Also shows his work. Gets better. Creates things for others on request or gives away first pieces. Gathers experience. Seeks challenges. The environment testifies to a “creative streak.” Designing may become a professional aspect or hobby. One deals with it and is asked by others for support or opinion because of the ability? One experiments. Specializes…and experiences satisfaction and/or frustration with all doing (and sometimes doesn’t know why).

Only the know-how about the possible differences or preconditions for your creative actions and their influence on you – can make the difference between frustration or satisfaction. Far away from your creative abilities, which are often in focus but often have nothing to do with it.
Therefore again and again in the memory call and examine: You actively have the power to scrutinize the circumstances and objectives, to have a say in them and to be able to decide for or against them.

Co-determination or freedom of participation is certainly questionable as a “salary graphic designer”, in an employment relationship. Because it is often the simple condition of the job to design and implement certain tasks graphically on format xy. You have to get to this point through design skills and a corresponding professional career, but you also have to be aware of whether you want to develop there. (And for which salary)

Nevertheless, even without a professional component:

Free creative and visual doing, you can do among other things playing, acting or creating.
Free creative and visual doing, one can pursue among other things playing, acting and creating.
