First test drive with the prototype

MikeRoBIKE Prototyp

The idea to build my own vehicle accompanies me for a long time. After some one-man boats and electrified e-bikes I am looking for the challenge in building the MikeRoBIKE. This time I will design and build my own frame. There is a lot of new stuff to learn, outside of the head and drawing board. It must work.

From theory to practice

I have already collected a lot of ideas in advance. But this time they should leave the paper and I build a prototype. A brushless motor with 1.6 KW should be used. I run it with my 48V battery. The vehicle should be small, off-road with freewheel and mountain climbing qualities.
I intend to approach me from the contruction minimum of the vehicle parts to a drivable bike for my size ratios.

Workshop design process

Here at this time only the picture gallery of my process over about 14 days until the first ride. A video will follow soon.

At some point, all the necessary parts that you need to drive are also on it. Battery in and off it goes.
A real designer knows no pain! Yes, the seat in oak finish still leaves something to be desired. There is still a lot to do but: The steering and braking are top. Gradients no problem and the top speed is like over the thumb and measured with GPS at 36 km/h. Through the freewheel is downhill of course more in it.

Video of the first test drive

The test drive alone was worth all the effort. It was just fun. You build something and then drive it around. Wonderful.

What still needs to be done now:

  • Seat
  • Rear brake
  • handlebar cover
  • Optimize footrest
  • possibly light

The list is long. More info will follow soon.
